As of September, 2026, 5550 fleet vehicles have telematics installed. While the initial deployment was completed in 2025, rolling installations of new vehicles and the replacement of non-communicating equipment is ongoing.

DPA and State Fleet Management worked with the Attorney General’s Office and the State Office of Risk Management (SORM) to develop the Telematics Universal Policy, which went into effect on November 2, 2020.

The purpose of the telematics program in State Fleet is to assist agencies to improve efficiency and safety in their operations. The capabilities of telematics allow the State of Colorado to monitor vehicle locations and operations, and the data generated by telematics equipment can be used in myriad ways that benefit employees of the State in accomplishing the many, diverse missions agencies undertake on behalf of the people of Colorado.
