Geotab Odometer Upload and Offset Process
Modified on: Wed, Apr 9, 2025 at 1:19 PM
Every month odometers are either entered or uploaded into CARS for billing. Those vehicles that are equpped with Geotab devices allow for a more effiecient process because the odometers can be uploaded and only require a brief review by the agency. As with all emerging technology, some devices may not report accurate odometers. In these instances, SFM will work to get the device to read an accurate odometer. Occasionally, an odometer offset must be performed. This is outlined in the overview below.
By the end of this overview, we anticipate you will have an understanding of how and why odometers are collected, which and how odometers are uploaded and what the Fleet Coordinator's responsibility is once odometers are uploaded, as well as what to expect from SFM, post upload. You will also have an understanding of what an offset is, why or why not one may be needed, and what the Fleet Coordinator's responsibility is when SFM permorms an offset.
The Odometer Upload and Offset Process overview that took place during the February MVAC meeting is available for your review. The slides are also available to download in order to follow along. You may also wish to view the Odometer Offset helpdesk article, and the Odometer Desk Aid can be printed out for a physical reference and reminder.
