Telematics Workgroup & Membership
Modified on: Thu, Aug 7, 2025 at 2:23 PM
State Fleet Management strives to keep balanced and equal representation from each agency in this group. Currently, one member from each agency is the standard. Typically this member is the agency's Primary Fleet Coordinator, but Fleet Coordinators may also designate a representative to attend in their stead.
Should a regular member of the group be unable to attend, the Fleet Coordinator may choose a different delegate from their agency to attend in their place. This scenario should be communicated with SFM at DPA_SFMTraining_Support@state.co.us before the meeting (so that the delegate can be invited). Meetings are recorded and uploaded to the shared Telematics User Group folder where members can review them as needed.
SFM welcomes and encourages members to invite guests from their agency. If a member would like to invite a guest, please email SFM at DPA_SFMTraining_Support@state.co.us with the guest's name (and if relevant, the specific topic of interest) at least 7 days before the meeting. This will provide SFM with adequate time to accommodate the topic in the agenda.
The Telematics Workgroup meets on the first Thursday of every month and is open to interested parties associated with Colorado Fleet. If you are interested in joining, please send an email to us at DPA_SFMTraining_Support@state.co.us.
***On rare occasions the user group will vote on telematics-related items. When a voting item is on the agenda, only listed members can participate in the voting process.
SFM implemented the Geotab Telematics solution in March 2019. The first Telematics Workgroup was held in June 2019. This group has been instrumental in guiding the progress that we have made:
- Piloting advanced integrations, such as:
- Battery notifications
- State of charge monitoring for EVs
- Monitoring and replacing device malfunctions
- Identifying Fleet Safety Metrics
- Engine Fault monitoring
- Approved the Telematics label that is placed on each vehicles driver side window that has a device installed.
- Reviewed Exceptions data for six rules to determine the best initial rules to adopt.
- Adopted four rules to date:
- Battery Drain 10/1/2019
- Idling > 3 Minutes 21 Seconds 11/7/2024
- Seat Belt 12/1/2019
- Unauthorized Device Removal 9/1/2020
